Job Description

Director, Dealership Accounting 

 

Reports to: Vice President, Dealership Accounting 

 

Primary Responsibilities 

 

The Director of Accounting will be responsible for leading and overseeing the financial operations and accounting practices across our network of automotive dealerships. This role involves managing multiple dealership controllers and their teams, ensuring that all financial procedures and practices adhere to company standards, and providing strategic financial insights to the operations teams. 

 

Primary Duties 

 

  • Team Leadership and Management: Lead a team of controllers and accounting staff across multiple locations. This includes hiring, training, mentoring, and evaluating team members to ensure high performance and development. 
  • Financial Oversight: Ensure that all dealership financial operations comply with accounting practices and standards. Oversee the preparation of financial statements, manage all accounting records, and ensure accurate OEM and executive reporting. 
  • Process Improvement: Develop and implement robust financial policies and procedures to enhance workflow, efficiency, and internal controls within the financial department. 
  • Acquisitions Management: Lead the acquisitions team to ensure seamless transitions of newly acquired entities under our corporate umbrella, aligning them with our operational standards and financial practices. 
  • Strategy and Planning: Provide strategic financial input and leadership on decision-making issues affecting the organization. 
  • Audit and Compliance: Coordinate with Go Auto’s Corporate team to ensure the organization meets required financial reporting deadlines for audits and taxes. 
  • Financial Analysis: Conduct in-depth financial analysis to provide insights into business operations, helping guide strategic decisions and resource allocation. 
  • Ad Hoc Projects: Spearhead ad hoc projects related to strategic initiatives, accounting enhancements, and other critical business processes, ensuring alignment with overall corporate objectives and enhancing operational efficiency. 

 

Requirements 

 

  • An accounting designation is essential for this role. 
  • Prior experience as a Controller in the auto industry is strongly preferred. 
  • Proficiency in Excel is crucial, with experience in VBA, SQL, and Power BI seen as advantageous. 
  • Skilled in seamlessly preparing monthly financial statements and year-end audit statements, with a strong aptitude for troubleshooting and reconciling accounting discrepancies. 
  • Skilled in general accounting functions and best practises, which are fundamental to daily operations. 
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute innovative ideas and strategies that enhance the profitability and success of the dealership. 
  • Motivated to improve financial controls and develop effective policies and procedures that elevate organizational efficiency.
